Our English lessons develop pupils’ spoken language, reading, writing and vocabulary.

We teach English in a cross-curricular way, linking up with other areas of the curriculum through a whole text approach.

Our pupils learn to speak clearly, convey their ideas fluently and confidently and to ask questions. Their vocabulary is developed systematically.

Phonics

We use the Read Write Inc. programme to teach phonics. This awareness helps the development of reading by segmenting and blending sounds. Children read individually and in groups.
